All of these industries were ideal for producing war materials.&nbsp; A take over of the city could provide the South with <a href="http://triblive.com/news/adminpage/4060688-74/war-civil-fortifications#axzz2Y0fMnTgG">equipment and resources </a>that other Pennsylvania cities, such as Harrisburg, could not supply.
