90.5 WESA Announces Newsroom Promotions

  

PITTSBURGH, PA., July 29 2015—90.5 WESA, Pittsburgh’s NPR news station, announced changes in its newsroom structure effective July 29, 2015. Marco Cardamone, Board Chair and Interim General Manager, made the announcements at a staff meeting.  

“Having established the station’s leadership in quality news and public affairs programming in the region in just four years, we want to position ourselves to increase our news coverage, and to provide more excellent and relevant programming to our audience in the broadcast and the digital space,” he said. “We are adjusting our leadership team’s responsibilities in order to allow them to focus on those goals and move the station to the next level.”

Mark Nootbaar becomes News Director, taking on supervision of the station’s flagship show, Essential Pittsburgh; Tammy Terwelp, Director of Content and Programming, will continue to oversee the station’s NPR programming and lead the station’s strategy for digital content development and production. Reporter Deanna Garcia becomes Assistant News Director and Chief Assignment Editor.

“We are proud of the work Mark, Tammy, and Deanna have done to make 90.5 WESA an effective and excellent news organization,” Cardamone stated in announcing the news. “We are excited for this next phase of growth and confident that we have the news and content programming leadership in place to achieve it.”
