90.5 WESA Weekend Watch 7/27 & 7/28

Jul 26, 2013

This Sunday, the aptly-named weekly concert series Weather Permitting presents a day of music and fun. Featuring a wide range of styles and genres, this family friendly event will include food trucks, poetry, hula hooping, squirt guns, and, of course, live music. Featured performers include Moldies and Monsters, Vertigo Go, and Arlo Aldo. Round 8 of Weather Permitting will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday night at Shadyside Nursery.

From the minds of Julie Mallis and D.S. Kinsell comes a night of both sights and sounds. Formed in the spirit of collaboration, L2D2 features 21 artists coming together for a performance that is sure to be both interesting and unique. Though each of the performers can be identified in the categories of “sight” or “sound,” each of the performers will be enhanced by the collaborative effort that happens when artists perform simultaneously. The night of music and visuals runs Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Most Wanted Fine Art in the Arts District on Penn Avenue.

If you feel like being active this Saturday, come out to the second annual One Whirl Yoga Fest. Practice a variety of yoga styles — from Bikram to Power Vinyasa Flow — throughout the day long event. Whether you are new to yoga or are an experienced yogi, you can choose from several classes to find your best fit. While recovering, you can visit the vendor’s village for healthy food choices made by local cooks. The One Whirl YogaFest and Healthy Lifestyle Expo runs throughout the day this Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Point State Park.

As part of the Andy Warhol Museum’s ongoing Voices program, Michael David Battle and Evelyn Pavlova will present a discussion on gender and language this Saturday. "He, She, It, They, You and Me" will focus on how language in the present day affects gender and identity. In service of the exhibition’s exploration of LGBTQ issues, Battle and Pavlova will be joined by local youth in order to facilitate and discussion. The Voices Gallery Talk will begin at 2 p.m. in the fourth floor gallery at the Andy Warhol Museum.

Join Midnight Radio and the Bricolage theatre for Midnight Radio Jr. Episode 1 - Underwater Voyage, a live sketch/variety show for children ages 6-12. Explore a magical underwater landscape full of mermaids, sunken ships and grindylows. Through music, storytelling, comedy, and live sound effects, Bricolage presents a vibrant experience aimed for a young audience. Before the show, activities in the lobby will feature games, treats, and arts and crafts. Performances run this Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bricolage Theatre downtown, and look for more performance times next weekend.
