Alternative "Souper Bowl" Benefits Pittsburgh's Hungry

91.3 WYEP will host its 16th annual “Souper Bowl Sunday” concert this weekend to benefit women and families in need.

Grand Piano, The Early Mays, and Kai Roberts will play from noon to 3pm in the Quiet Reading Room at Carnegie Library in Oakland. Concert-goers are encouraged to drop off non-perishable foods and household goods that will benefit Hearth, an organization that offers transitional housing to homeless single women and their children.

According to Victoria Gill, Communications and Community Outreach Manager for Hearth,  the organization relies on this annual event for almost 75 percent of its food donations.

Gill says even the most avid football fan should be able to find time to attend the concert or drop off a donation.

“It’s a great event, you get to hear some great music, and it’s before the Super Bowl so why not come out?” Gill asked.
