The new, modern-styled Penn Mathilda Apartment complex is located on Penn Avenue in the East End and offers 39 units.

The Confluence – where the news comes together – is 90.5 WESA’s weekly news program.

Each week, reporters, editors and bloggers join veteran journalist and host Kevin Gavin for a behind-the-headlines look at the stories important to the Pittsburgh region.

This week on The Confluence, panelists discuss affordable and accessible housing in Pittsburgh. We mark the launch of The Caucus, a new print newspaper taking an in-depth look at the state government in Harrisburg. And we talk to long-time Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Jack Kelly, whose final column appeared last Sunday.

Pittsburgh Housing

When it comes to housing in Pittsburgh, what does "accessible" and "affordable" really mean? We'll pose those questions to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Kate Giammarise, who often covers local housing, and Linda Metropulos, director of housing and development at ACTION Housing.

A New Media Venture

A new paper covering state politics debuted this week. The Caucus will dive deep into state government with investigative reporting and analysis. Joining us are new hires Mike Wereschagin and Brad Bumsted, both recently of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The Last Word

After 18 years, Jack Kelly has penned hisfinal column for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He joins us for an "exit interview" and addresses how the media landscape changed during his years behind the pen.
