The 2012 Presidential Election campaign is intensifying in Pennsylvania.

President Barack Obama will appear this evening at 8:00 o'clock at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia to raise money for the Obama Victory Fund Campaign, a joint fundraising committee of the Obama re-election campaign, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties.

A recent poll released by Quinnipiac Universityreports that Mr. Obama is favored by Pennsylvania voters over Governor Mitt Romney by 6%.

But, last month the incumbent president was leading by 8%, and Pennsylvanians favored Romney by 8% when asked which candidate would do a better job with the economy.

Pennsylvanian Republicans are encouraged by the poll's data. Rob Gleason, Pennsylvania GOP Chairman, says he's optimistic about Romney's chances for a Pennsylvania win.

"Mr. Romney appeals to a broader section of Pennsylvanians this time the four years ago," Gleason said. "We really feel that he has a great appeal to the Independents in the southeast."

The poll also reported Pennsylvania Governor Corbett having the lowest approval rating since taking office. Gleason says Corbett's ratings will not harm Romney's campaign in Pennsylvania.

"Governor Corbett will be an asset to Mitt Romney in his campaign," Gleason said. "The Governor has made very difficult choice that need to be made in this country in order to get Pennsylvanians working again. All these tough decisions being made now will kick in in the future."

The last time Pennsylvania was a red state was in 1988, when George H.W. Bush defeated Michael Dukakis in the general election by slightly over 2%. Additionally, the last time a republican candidate won the general election in Allegheny County was when Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter in 1980.
