Peduto Won't Say If Pittsburgh Will Go To Court Over Releasing Its HQ2 Bid

90.5 WESA

Last month, the Pennsylvania Office of Open Recordsordered the City of Pittsburgh to release its bid to become Amazon's second headquarters.

Mayor Bill Peduto said at the time he'd fight the ruling, even if it meant going to court.

But as the deadline approaches to make a decision, he will not confirm if that's still the plan.

He said part of the reason PGHQ2 -- the team that put together the application -- doesn't want to release the bid is because of non-disclosure agreements signed with private developers.

"It will be a decision that will be made with all of the partners of PGHQ2," Peduto said. "And that hasn't been finally decided yet."

Peduto asserts about 75 percent of the finalist cities have not released the details of their bids. Some cities have released details of their applications, including Philadelphia, which Peduto said previously has contributed to additional scrutiny in Pittsburgh.

"I feel pretty confident that a judge would rule that private deals are able to be done under a private purview," he said. "Let the courts decide."

The City has until February 23 to either release the bid materialsor appeal to the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.
