Pittsburgh Innovations in Energy

When it comes to Pittsburgh’s growing energy landscape, innovation does not usually come to mind right away. But the region has been at the forefront of important energy innovations at the private, federal, and university level for more than 100 years.

Two events in the coming weeks aim to bring these worlds together, the Enterprise Forum Pittsburgh and the 3rd annual Energy and Innovation Conference.

Connie Palucka, Managing Director of Business Growth Services at Catalyst Connection, will be a presenter at the Energy and Innovation Conference, and says the goal is to bring business leaders, scientists, technology leaders, and entrepreneurs together to talk about energy and innovations.

Palucka says one important development in energy source conversation is the Shell ethane cracker plant coming to Monaca, Beaver County.

Craig Waller, chair of the Enterprise Forum Pittsburgh, says some companies are innovating by making the fracking process more environmentally efficient. Both Palucka and Waller say because of local universities, businesses, and federal funds, among other factors, Southwest Pennsylvania is a hub of innovative energy.
