Pittsburgh International Updating Hours For Alternate Screening Lanes

Travelers passing through Pittsburgh International Airport might find their check-ins are a bit quicker due to new procedures for the passenger screening lanes. Beginning Tuesday, September 25, the lanes located outside the ticketing level (the alternate checkpoint)  will change the morning hours to 4:00-8:00 a.m. and afternoon hours to 2:00-6:00 p.m.

Airport spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny said the new hours were designed to make going through security easier and faster without having to hire new employees. “In order to accommodate all the staffing demands, they felt it best to optimize the hours at the alternate checkpoint,” Jenny said.

Passengers are still encouraged to arrive at least 90 minutes or two hours prior to their flight departure time.  Jenny said despite the quicker procedures, it is always important to allow sufficient time for check-in and security procedures.

“That is definitely advice to take, particularly during the busy summer travel season and it’s also important to heed during the upcoming holiday travel season,” Jenny said.

The Transportation Security Authority (TSA) at the Pittsburgh Airport operates two security checkpoints. The main checkpoint is located on the second floor of the landside terminal. The entrance to the alternate lanes is located on the commercial departure curb, which is on the ticketing side of the landside terminal.
