PPG Employees Paint School As Part Of Community Outreach Program

Students at Hazelwood’s Propel Charter School have freshly painted walls thanks to a new project that PPG Industries is undertaking.

The initiative is called "Colorful Communities" and will consist of PPG employees in 14 cities where they work doing community outreach. That outreach will consist primarily of painting facilities.

“We thought let's start with a project where we can make an immediate impact with our people and our paint and we’ve done that, by using 60 gallons of paint,” said Bryan Iams, vice president of Corporate and Government Affairs at PPG Industries. Iams said this 10-year commitment will cost PPG $10 million.

PPG is a multi-national paint and glass company headquartered in Pittsburgh.

About 100 PPG employees used 60 gallons of paint to paint the school in Hazelwood, which had been a Pittsburgh Public School facility in prior years. Iams said they will continue working with the Propel School in Hazelwood and with some of the other Propel schools.

Other Colorful Communities projects will consist of painting a children’s hospital in Alessandria, Italy, a community center in downtown Cleveland and a senior center in South Korea.
