  • Listen to this clip from the November program and stay tuned for the broadcast of our live forum Wednesday April 3rd.

On Wednesday, March 20th 90.5 WESA’s daily public affairs program Essential Pittsburgh hosted a Public Forum on the Black Middle Class in Pittsburgh. The forum took place at the WESA/WYEP studios in Bedford Square on the Southside.

If you weren't able to attend, we will broadcast the public forum on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at noon and 8pm on 90.5FM WESA.

Inspired by a Pittsburgh Quarterly article by journalist Ben Schmitt, this forum will address the history and current experiences of the African American middle class in Pittsburgh.

In November we broadcast a discussion about the experiences of African American newcomers in Pittsburgh. On March 20th we expanded the dialogue further.

Taking part in the discussion are journalist Ben Schmitt, President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh Esther Bush, Pittsburgh City Councilman R. Daniel Lavelle and Candi Castleberry-Singleton, Chief Inclusion & Diversity Officer (CIDO) at UPMC
