Workers to Rally for Better Wages and Benefits

Workers from Pittsburgh's Hospitality Community will rally Wednesday afternoon downtown and outside the Consol Energy Center.

The workers are calling for better wages. Orgininizers said since they provide a welcoming experience to tourists, conventioneers and those who frequent sports and entertainment events, which drive much of the economy, they deserve better wages and benefits.

Unite Here 57 represents 2,000 local hospitality workers. It is in the midst of negotiations.

"When we do our job right, people are going to come back to Pittsburgh. And the money that we take home in our paychecks, that's not money whisked off to some multi-national corporation. That's money we spend right here in Pittsburgh, at local restaurants and small businesses," said Rose Lynd, lead organizer of Unite Here, Local 57.

The rallies begin at 4:00 p.m.
