The Three Rivers Arts Festival has announced its headliners, giving Pittsburghers something to look forward to later this spring.

This year’s theme for the 10-day festival, June 5-14, is UNSEEN/UNHEARD and it focuses on musicians new to the festival, emerging artists, or with new music to debut.

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of the summer season. In Pittsburgh, no matter where you go there will be festivals a plenty, celebrating everything from ice cream to the arts.

Business contributor Rebecca Harris looked at the economic impact of these festivals citywide, especially when it comes to the diversity of events.

“Everything from huge outdoor concerts, to massive fairs, to small outdoor events, to cinema in the parks, to neighborhood festivals. There's really just about something for everybody."

Summer is beginning to draw to a close, and for most there are only a few chances left to get out there and enjoy all of its offerings -- especially the area’s lovely fresh produce.

According to Rhonda Schuldt of Local Goodness, there are a dearth of food festivals and fairs that are sure to satisfy anyone still eager to explore the local food scene. Chief among these events are the amazing array of food festivals, including the Laurel Highlands Garlic Festival this weekend, which she calls “a nice day trip away from Pittsburgh.” the festival boasts hundreds of varieties of garlic which will intrigue any foodie with an affinity for the pungent plant.

The reopening of the iconic fountain, the refurbished Point State Park and the annual Three Rivers Arts Festival are converging in Pittsburgh today.

The ten day arts festival usually attracts about 200,000 people each year and has featured more than 12,000 artists through the years.

Veronica Corpuz, director of Festival Management and Special Projects for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, said the festival is for everyone.

The 2-Minute Film Festival returns to the Carnegie Museum of Art this summer with a child-like image.

This year’s theme, “At Play,” encourages applicants to test boundaries, take risks and bring out their childhood creativity.

The 2-Minute Film Festival showcases more than 30 of the best two-minute movies submitted by people from around the country. Judges are looking for the briefest films that best capture the idea of play. Each movie shown at the festival is eligible for the People’s Choice and Juror’s Choice awards.

In the world of comic strip art, The Reuben Awards, are on par with the Oscars. Named after Rube Goldberg, the Reuben has been awarded by the National Cartoonists Society to artists such as Charles Schulz, Chester Gould and Bill Watterson.
