Global Links Finds Success in Giving Medical Surplus to the Needy

Global Links works with local hospitals to transfer supplies to hospitals in need.

Dedicated to supporting underprivileged medical facilities both in the region and overseas, Global Links works with hospitals in the greater Pittsburgh area to collect, refurbish and distribute medical supplies.

CEO and co-founder Kathleen Hower says while the company remains firmly rooted in Pittsburgh, they’ll continue to help those in need worldwide.

Local Charity Wants to Send Life-Saving Nebulizers to Developing Countries

An asthmatic child in Latin American village gasps for air, struggling to breath. The mother has gotten her son to a medical clinic where she knows the life saving medicine is stored, but she has to endure an agonizing wait as another child gets treatment from the only nebulizer machine in the district.

In the meantime, thousands of the machines that aspirate the liquid medication for inhalation sit on shelves in southwestern Pennsylvania, gathering dust never to be used again.

Training for Disaster: A New College Course Teaches Humanitarian Aid

  Beginning this summer La Roche College will offer a first of its kind - two week training program for people interested in working in Humanitarian and Emergency Aid. We'll talk with the program's instructors Jeff Ritter, Department Chair of Communication and Astrid Kersten, Professor of Management. Then Angela Garcia, Deputy Director of Global Links medical relief and development program talks about the real world application of this training.
