Heinz History Center Celebrates National Pickle Day with Free Days

Visitors to the History Center can celebrate National Pickle Day on Saturday, Nov. 15, and see the perfectly-preserved, 160-year-old pickles – still green in their original glass jar – on display in the History Center’s Pittsburgh’s Lost Steamboat: Treasures of the Arabia exhibit.

Lost treasures, war artifacts, and pickles…yes pickles are just a few of the attractions the Heinz History Center and Fort Pitt Museum are offering during their free admissions weekend, celebrating National Pickle Day from Nov. 15-16.  

Both the Heinz Center and the Fort Pitt Museum will open their doors to all visitors including adults, children, and seniors, courtesy of a grant from the Jack Buncher Foundation.

Exhibition Hails Heinz’s Storied History

A new exhibit that opened this weekend at the Senator John Heinz History Center celebrates the 145-year history of the H.J. Heinz Company.

Pittsburgh-based Heinz has evolved into one of the world’s largest food processing companies since its founding in 1869.

“The Heinz Company has been important to Pittsburgh for 145 years and we think the History Center is the right place to tell that story,” said Andy Masich, president and CEO of the History Center.

Heinz To Assemble 100,000 Meals To Fight World Hunger

More than 300 Heinz employees in Pittsburgh will spend three hours Friday assembling meals to stop hunger in developing countries.

The multi-billion dollar company is partnered with Stop Hunger Now, a nonprofit food distribution company. Last year Stop Hunger Now distributed 41.9 million meals in 27 counties, and this year the Heinz Company plans to help the organization double that number; Heinz will provide 42 million meals on top of those from Stop Hunger Now.

Heinz Chapel to Celebrate 75 Years with Group Wedding Vow Renewal

Nearly 200 couples from as far away as California will be renewing their wedding vows at Heinz Chapel’s 75th anniversary celebration on Saturday.

Pat Gibbons is the director of Heinz Chapel, located on the University of Pittsburgh campus. She said the response to this weekend’s festivities has far exceeded her expectations. Including 196 married couples, she is anticipating around 560 guests for the vow-renewal ceremony.
