U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly of northwestern Pennsylvania says he won't run for governor, but may still decide to seek the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey in 2018.

Kelly issued the brief statement Friday.

The 69-year-old Kelly says he'll make a final decision later this summer.

At a people’s town hall in Washington, Pa., southwest of Pittsburgh, an audience of about 45 listened to Leeann Howell talk about how repealing the Affordable Care Act would affect her.

Republican Mike Kelly will represent Pennsylvania’s third congressional district for a third two-year term after defeating Democratic challenger Dan LaVallee with about 60 percent of the vote.

Kelly, a Butler resident, spoke with LaVallee following the returns, and said both were happy to have run clean campaigns.

“I think that what we’re both very pleased with is the fact that we kept it above the belt,” he said. “We didn’t throw dirt on each other. We didn’t do a lot of things that you see on some other campaigns.”

Two Corbett staffers resign with connections to lewd emails. The story surrounding the sending of sexually explicit emails among Tom Corbett’s staffers while he held the position of Attorney General got more interesting. As more information was released to Corbett and news outlets, Environmental Protection Secretary Christopher Abruzzo and his colleague Glenn Parno have resigned from their posts, reports 90.5 WESA’s Mark Nootbaar.

Democratic Congressional candidate Dan LaVallee said Pennsylvania’s 3rd district is “ready for new leadership” as he gathered supporters outside of the incumbent’s district office in Sharon, Pa.

LaVallee said Mike Kelly (R- PA 3) is out of touch with voters. “He hasn’t been spending time with the voters. He said previously that he doesn’t have time to glad-hand with voters.”

LaVallee is on the offensive with just a little more than a month before the election, denouncing what he describes as Kelly’s proclivity for lavish trips and his votes to cut education funding.

Three Days Before Default: Things Get Messy

Congress is working through Columbus Day in hope of reaching a deal on the debt ceiling before the Treasury runs out of money on Thursday.

Over the weekend, Senate Democrats dismissed a compromise proposal by Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va) that would have funded the government through March at current levels, raised the debt limit through Jan. 31, delayed a tax on medical device manufacturers and established income verification for people receiving subsidies to buy health insurance.
