A man accused of killing a Pennsylvania police officer then leading law enforcement on a four-day manhunt with the help of his mother will stand trial.

A Pennsylvania police chief who oversaw the department when a rookie officer was fatally shot during a traffic stop is resigning.

New Kensington Mayor Thomas Guzzo said Sunday Chief Jim Klein discussed his resignation with him Nov. 16. The mayor says Klein told his officers the next day, hours before 25-year-old Officer Brian Shaw was shot and killed.

Guzzo says Klein is leaving for another undisclosed position. His last day has not been announced.

After moving its headquarters to New York 11 years ago, iconic aluminum manufacturer Alcoa is returning to Pittsburgh, where it was founded, at the beginning of next month.

The region’s first pay-what-you-can restaurant is expected to open in January in New Kensington. Knead Community Café is modeled after similar facilities around the country that offer meals in exchange for donations or volunteer time.

Mary and Kevin Bode, cofounders of the café, said they wanted to renovate the $64,000 building with the hopes that it would spur revitalization in the city’s downtown.
