Paterno's Widow: We Were Ignorant of Sex Predators

The widow of longtime Penn State coach Joe Paterno says she and her husband were ignorant about sexual predators like Jerry Sandusky.

Speaking at a child-abuse prevention program, Sue Paterno says she and her husband sometimes unknowingly helped Sandusky "groom" the boys he abused, believing he was helping them find a better life.

Paterno says she was horrified to learn Sandusky sexually abused several young boys.

Next move Is Unclear After Penn State Case Ruling

For months, the criminal case against three former Penn State administrators accused of covering up abuse complaints about Jerry Sandusky has been in limbo while a judge considered their request to have the case thrown out.

Judge Barry Feudale's ruling against Graham Spanier, Gary Schultz and Tim Curley could clear the way for a district judge to finally conduct the preliminary hearing that had once been scheduled for last December.

Penn State: Sandusky Interview Continues to Open Wounds

Penn State says Jerry Sandusky's assertion that a key witness misinterpreted his showering with a young boy continues to "open wounds" for his victims.

Excerpts of Sandusky's interview with a documentary filmmaker were broadcast Monday on NBC's "Today" show. The former Penn State assistant football coach says he doesn't understand how Mike McQueary concluded "sex was going on" when he witnessed the shower incident in 2001.

No Ruling After Brief Hearing in Penn State Suit

A judge says it might be late April before he rules on Penn State's request to dismiss a whistleblower and defamation lawsuit filed by former assistant football coach Mike McQueary.

Judge Thomas Gavin presided over the half-hour hearing Monday at which lawyers debated the school's preliminary objections that could end the case.

McQueary is seeking millions in damages for how he says he was treated after reporting having seen Jerry Sandusky showering with a boy in 2001.

Sandusky Scandal tops $41 Million for Penn State

Penn State's bill to pay costs associated with the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal has topped $41 million, including $8.1 million to pay for the internal investigation led by former FBI director Louis Freeh.

The latest disclosure posted Monday on a university website offered more itemization for certain costs including the bill for the Freeh probe. The bill also for the first time includes the $12 million payment to the NCAA — the first of five annual installments of the $60 million fine that's part of the sanctions.

$1M Gift to Establish Industrial Engineering Professorship at Penn State

A California couple has donated $1 million to Penn State's department of industrial engineering.

The Centre Daily Times reports the donors are alumnus Tom Lucas, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1976, and his wife, Nicki. They're from of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.

The money will create an endowed professorship. Department head Paul Griffin says it will help add a top-notch faculty member and also provide resources for current and future students.

Lucas retired last year after a career in the pharmaceutical and biomedical industry.

Penn State Sues Insurer Over Sandusky Coverage

Penn State says in a new lawsuit that its insurance carrier isn't honoring its legal obligation to cover it for claims related to sexual misconduct by former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

The 18-page complaint filed by the university in Bellefonte Tuesday said it has been sued or contacted by 29 claimants but the Pennsylvania Manufacturers' Insurance Company isn't providing coverage.

The lawsuit alleges breach of contract and bad faith, saying Penn State is entitled to damages and costs.

Special Prosecutor to Probe Penn St. Grand Jury

A Pennsylvania judge has named a special prosecutor to examine whether secrecy rules were violated in relation to the grand jury that investigated Jerry Sandusky and three former Penn State administrators who are currently facing criminal charges.

Lawyer James M. Reeder was given six months to look into the matter, according to a Feb. 8 order from Judge Barry Feudale.

Corbett Defends Antitrust Suit vs. NCAA

Gov. Tom Corbett argued in a court document filed late Monday that the NCAA has been trying to use his pending antitrust lawsuit against it over the Penn State penalties in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal to combat what he describes as a groundswell of public criticism.

Corbett said the judge should not grant the NCAA's request to dismiss the case, saying college sports' governing body made a factual error when it said the penalties were voted on by the university's trustees.

NCAA Suit Raises PA Lawmakers Hackles

Corbett Signs Bill to Keep NCAA Fines Against Penn State in PA

Gov. Corbett has signed legislation that would require all proceeds from the 60 million dollars in NCAA fines paid by Penn State to be used exclusively in Pennsylvania.

Penn State agreed to pay the fines levied by the NCAA as a result of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case.
