$3.9M Program to Help PA Districts Hire Police Officers Underway

A $3.9 million state grant program that will assist Pennsylvania school districts in hiring police officers has officially begun.

The program is awarding districts with money that must be used to strengthen school safety procedures.

With the funds, districts are expected to place a school resource officer or school police officer within the building or buildings in the district, Pennsylvania Department of Education spokesman Tim Eller said.

Moms Demand Action Group to Remember Sandy Hook

A national firearm safety organization is calling on Congress to enact comprehensive background checks for gun purchases on the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting.

Leading up to Dec. 14, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America will host a “week of action” to honor the 26 lives lost in Newtown, Conn. and bring what the organization is calling “common-sense reforms” to the nation’s gun laws.

Each day of the week, participants will take part in “daily calls to action.”
