On October 21, Marty McFly will arrive from 1985 and witness hover boards and flying cars, purchase a sports almanac, and experience the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series for the first time since 1908.
In honor of the date, Row House Cinema in Lawrenceville will be hosting “Back to the Future Day Celebration.”
“Our event is to celebrate this day and just the overall trilogy of Back to the Future and also do some fun things with the things that were predicted” said Brian Mendelssohn, the owner of Row House Cinema
In Back to the Future Part II McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, arrives 30 years in the future in his time traveling Dolorean.
The event will air Back to the Future Part I, Part II, and Part II consecutively on October 21, 22, and 23. There will also be a Dolorean fans can take photos with and a costume contest.
Pittsburgh Filmmaker's Regent Square Theater is also showing Back to the Future Part II on October 21.
“This date has been looked forward to for a long time by many of the movies fans, but it’s more of a cultural phenomenon” said Mendelssohn
Mendelssohn also believes the popularity of the movie will attract fans of all ages.
“It doesn’t feel dated when you watch the film which is surprising because we’re in 2015 and Back to the Future II is set in a totally different feel than what we would imagine.”
Additionally, Mendelssohn credits the Cubs postseason success this year to generating even more hype.
“They were calling this the prediction of Back to the Future” said Mendelssohn. “That was the mantra I heard when I was in Chicago. I think it’s just exciting. I mean the Cubs beat us and that was very heartbreaking but now that we’re past that I’m definitely cheering for them.”
