It is Labor Day weekend! Are you lucky enough to have a three-day weekend? If so, WESA’s Josh and Sarah and Yelp Pittsburgh’s Rachel are here to fill you in on the weekend’s fun activities, here in Pittsburgh and just around the (three) riverbend!
When Josh wants to find his inner Pocahontas, he looks no further than Ohiopyle State Park. It’s the perfect place for a weekend getaway. The park features tons of different trails where you can immerse yourself in towering trees and wildflowers. There is also a natural waterslide and one can even paddle the Youghiogheny River. If he wants to stay closer to home, he is always sure to check out Raccoon Creek State Park, which features a wildflower reserve and tons of picnicking options. Cook Forest State Park is another beautiful option. There, you can go tubing for up to four hours on the river. Plus, they have cabins for all you glampers.
Rachel suggests you head up to Erie for your weekend getaway. It’s just “beyond those trees and right behind these waterfalls”…and up 1-79 N. Presque Isle has a ton of beaches, including a kite beach and a dog-friendly beach. You can rent bicycles and kayaks and there are even beaches you can camp on. Who knew the summer sun was waiting for us just a few hours north?
This next suggestion might be slightly controversial, but Sarah suggests you don’t always “choose the smoothest course.” Check out Cleveland. Hear us out. There are a ton of great restaurants up there, including Michael Symon’s Lola Bistro. There is also the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, whose costume exhibit is something to be seen. TLC’s "No Scrubs" video outfits are there, so you will be able to knock that off your bucket list... we know you better than you think...
Sticking around here? These events in Pittsburgh are Pocahontas approved!*
Crafts and Drafts Record Hop at East End Brewing Company is Saturday. Check out all the vintage vinyl, artwork, food and ice cream that they will have on hand.
Title Town Soul and Funk Party is this Saturday at Spirit. Dance the night away to timeless tunes, all with a little funk!
The Labor Day Luau Party at Howl at the Moon is this Sunday (you can go out on a Sunday because you have Monday off!) Grab your Hawaiian shirts and get ready for drinks, a live band, dueling pianos and games.
Dormont Doggie Dip is Monday at the Dormont pool. Summer is over, kids. So that means bring your dog down to the pool and let them take a dip before the pool closes up for the year.
Have a safe Labor Day weekend, everyone. Go out and explore what’s going on in and around the ‘burgh!
