A set of ambitious goals to reduce Pittsburgh's environmental impact goes before the public this Wednesday.
Pittsburgh City Council is to hold a public hearing on the city's Climate Action Plan, which consists of goals to be met by 2030, including reducing city-wide emissions by 50 percent and diverting all city waste from landfills.
Court Gould, executive director of Sustainable Pittsburgh, said the group is pleased the city is focusing on the future.
"A climate-focused plan is one that addresses social equity issues, resource conservation and transportation solutions," Gould said. "So it is a whole community plan for benefit wrapped up in a plan to address our carbon responsibility."
But Eric Boerer of Bike Pittsburgh said the city didn't go far enough on bike-related goals. The city wants 3.6 percent of commuters to use bikes by 2030, twice the current amount.
"The bicycling goal was really low," Boerer said. "It wasn't very bold."
Boerer said Bike Pittsburgh will work with the city to help accomplish some goals, if needed.
