Just a day after mayoral candidate Bill Peduto assembled his coalition of supporters on the steps of the Pittsburgh City-County Building, Jack Wagner gathered those endorsing him to become the next mayor of Pittsburgh in the same place.
“He brings to this job an awful lot of experience in government and outside of government and will be good for family issues throughout the city of Pittsburgh, I know that for sure," said former Congressman Bill Coyne, one of Wagner’s most notable supporters. "He’s worked very hard, and as auditor general he brings executive experience to the quest to the mayor’s office.”
Wagner said he's honored to have Coyne backing him in his campaign.
“But first and foremost he was respected in government, and that’s really the legacy of Bill Coyne," Wagner said. "He worked with everyone. He was a collaborator. He was a person who brought people together. "
Both the IBEW Local 29 and the Operating Engineers Local 95 were on hand to show their support for Wagner.
Three other candidates are vying for the Democratic nomination for mayor: City Councilman Bill Peduto, state Rep. Jake Wheatley and community activist A.J. Richardson.
