The chief of staff to outgoing state Rep. Hal English appears set to fill his seat in Harrisburg after winning Tuesday’s race for the 30th House district.
Republican Lori Mizgorski decided to run in July after her boss of five years, English, opted against seeking re-election despite winning the GOP primary just two months earlier.
She defeated Democratic challenger Betsy Monroe on Tuesday, according to unofficial election returns.
Mizgorski will serve the state’s 30th House district, which includes the North Hills community of Fox Chapel, as well as Hampton, O’Hara, Richland and Shaler townships.
State Democratshadhoped to pick up this seat, banking on votes from college-educated suburbanites -- especially women -- who do not support President Donald Trump.
Mizgorski sits on the Shaler Township board of commissioners. Monroe worked for Highmark insurance.
