Happy Tax Day. That refund check is in the mail so now it is time to put it to good use by going out and enjoying all the fun events in Pittsburgh. WESA’s Josh and Sarah and Yelp Pittsburgh’s Rachel are here to tell you how to spend that cash.
The first way to spend your refund check is at Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week, starting this Friday. Learn about the region’s craft beer culture and sample different beers in the area. This is the 5th year of this exciting week, so don’t miss out!
Next thing to spend your refund check on is the 21+ night at the Carnegie Science Center this Friday night. The theme is “Sci-Fi.” Enjoy all things Star Trek, as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film. Explore futuristic technology such as 3D printing, make your own ectoplasm slime and check out a screening of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Plus, no kids, so that’s just like an extra cherry on top.
Let’s keep spending that money. Relive your childhood and kick it old school with the Children’s Museum “Never Grow Up” event. Enjoy live-action video games, larger than life adult coloring, food, drinks and more! All proceeds benefit the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Again, no kids, so even better.
That refund check is going to do you good on Saturday at The 6th Annual Great Shadyside Yard Sale. It’s joined with the 4th Annual Bark Shadyside Pup Walk and the Neighborhood Flea. From 9am-2pm, check out different vintage vendors as well as local food trucks to keep you going for a morning of shopping and dog walking!
Jack Donaghy from 30 Rock always had his opinions about taxes. What does this have to do with anything? Well, Mr. Alec Baldwin is in town with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He is an avid music (and public radio) fan. Baldwin helped create the playlist for the evening, revealing his favorite performances and moments in music. This event is Saturday night at Heinz Hall.
Spending all that tax refund money is going to make you tired, so it's time to slow down on Sunday. This Sunday is Mattress Factory’s Breakfast in Bed, Kegs, Eggs and Opera. Spend an afternoon sampling brews from Penn Brewery and the War Streets Brewery, Wigle Whiskey and more. The Pittsburgh Opera will be previewing their upcoming production of “The Rake’s Progress” and be sure to chow down on some yummy food for breakfast, including an omelette bar! Who knew those even existed! Only in Pittsburgh…
Enjoy your weekend, folks.
