A still from the film "Danseur," produced by Scott Gormley of Pittsburgh.

Dance studios across the United States are brimming with bunheads dreaming of crossing the stage at Lincoln Center, but guests would be hard pressed to find any boys among them.

Produced and directed by Scott Gormley, the documentary film DANSEUR -- inspired by the plight of his son, Jackson -- explores why verbal and physical abuse is often targeted at young men and boys passionate about ballet.

Gormley is joined in studio by Jackson, who is now a junior at Point Park University, and Garfield Lemonius, chair of Point Park's department of dance. The film is showing at the university on Friday.

Elsewhere in the program, U.S. Senator Bob Casey spoke to WESA's Chris Potter as Senate hearings began earlier this week. Though Casey was not in Washington, he echoed many of the concerns that his fellow Democrats expressed on Capitol Hill during this week's Senate hearings on the U.S. Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.

WYEP Evening Mix host Cindy Howes shares what's in heavy rotation on WESA's sister station, 91.3 FM.

And WESA's Lucy Perkins explains how early anti-abortion protests in Pittsburgh became a model for the movement nationwide. The story is the third in a four-part series.

The Confluence, where the news comes together, is 90.5 WESA’s daily news program. Tune in weekdays at 9 a.m. to hear newsmakers and innovators join veteran journalist Kevin Gavin, taking an in-depth look at stories important to the Pittsburgh region. Find more episodes of The Confluence here.
