Earlier this month, Pittsburgh Public Schools officials blamed a nationwide bus driver shortage for its transportation challenges. In an attempt to make sure every student could get to school, the district made a last minute announcement to push back school start dates and try to hire more drivers. Other districts of a similar size say they were in the same dilemma but have been making plans to address the problem for more than a year. PPS officials said the district has been working on the issue for about four months.
