The criminal case against the man charged with stabbing author Salman Rushdie involves so much potential evidence that prosecutors say they need more time to review it.

City of Asylum co-founder Henry Reese says the attack on Rushdie "strengthens our commitment."

Salman Rushdie's agent says the author is "on the road to recovery" two days after suffering serious injuries in a stabbing at a lecture in upstate New York. Andrew Wylie continued to caution that although Rushdie's "condition is headed in the right direction," his recovery would be a long process.

Salman Rushdie, the author whose writing led to death threats from Iran in the 1980s, has been attacked and apparently stabbed in the neck by a man who rushed the stage as he was about to give a lecture in western New York. An Associated Press reporter witnessed a man confront Rushdie on stage at the Chautauqua Institution and punch or stab him 10 to 15 times as he was being introduced.
