Jeanne Clark officially announced her candidacy for Pittsburgh City Council on Saturday, she’s seeking the District 8 seat currently held by Bill Peduto, who is running for Mayor. Clark said there are four main areas she will focus on, among them city finances.
“We’ve gotta make sure that we keep our promise to our workers that they get the pensions that we promised them and that they paid for, so we have to make them whole,” said Clark, “and we have to make sure that everybody, in order to get our financial house in order, pays their fair share. That means profits and non-profits alike, especially the big non-profits.”
Clark said she’d also focus on equity and ensuring Pittsburgh is open to everyone, adding more women and people of color are needed in the workforce and government; creating safer neighborhoods, and work with the public and school board to improve Pittsburgh Public Schools. She said the city is moving in a positive direction, and she wants to keep that going.
“Pittsburgh is a wonderful place to live, I can’t say that enough, and everyone who comes here from elsewhere learns that right away,” said Clark, “I want to make sure the world knows what a wonderful place Pittsburgh is.”
Clark’s campaign is being chaired by Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. Also running for the seat is Bill Peduto's Chief of Staff Dan Gilman who announced his candidacy earlier this month, and Pittsburgh Attorney Sam Hens-Greco who announces his candidacy Thursday.
