Penn State President Rodney Erickson says a process is being developed for settling civil suits filed against the university by victims of convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky.
Following a student forum Wednesday, Erickson said the university wants to develop a process "fair to everyone" and to ensure victims are dealt with in a just manner. He said the university hoped to release more details in the near future, however he did not provide a timeline.
Sandusky is a former Penn State assistant football coach convicted in June of 45 criminal counts including 17 first degree felonies. Sandusky was accused of sexually assaulting 10 young boys during a 15 year period. Prior to sentencing on October 9, Centre County Judge John Cleland will hold a hearing to determine if Sandusky is a sexually violent predator which would require him to be registered for the remainder of his life as a sex offender. The 68-year old Sandusky faces a minimum of 60 and a maximum of 442 years in prison.
Erickson had said the night Sandusky was convicted that the school planned to contact the lawyers for the victims and invite them to participate in a program to "facilitate the resolution" of claims against the university.
