Oct 21, 2016

The Confluence – where the news comes together is 90.5 WESA’s weekly news program.

Each week reporters, editors and bloggers join veteran journalist, and host, Kevin Gavin. They’ll go behind the headlines taking an in-depth look at the stories important to the Pittsburgh region.

We’ll discuss the faculty strike at Pennsylvania’s 14 state universities. Also, we’ll discover what ideas were suggested to improve the quality of life for Pittsburghers at the P4 Conference. From a White House-driven police initiative to the release of a crime report we’ll take a look at police issues.

P4 Conference

The annual P4 Conference was held in Pittsburgh this week. This year’s focus was on improving the quality of life for all people while making the city less segregated by race and income. Joining us with a look at the  conference are WESA reporter Liz Reid and Public Source reporter Eric Holmberg.

Policing in Pittsburgh

We’ll look at policing issues from the city of Pittsburgh joining the White House-driven police data initiative to the release of a report about the use of force by city officers. Taking part in the conversation are Public Source reporter Jeffrey Benzing and  New Pittsburgh Courier staff reporter Christian Morrow.

Faculty Strike

A faculty strike at the 14 state-owned universities had over 100-thousand college students missing classes. However, a deal was reached late Friday afternoon. We’ll discuss the strike and its resolution with WESA Harrisburg reporter Katie Meyer.
