Rothfus Fights Federal Overreach

Congressman Keith Rothfus (PA-8) has come out strong against a proposed expansion of the Clean Water Act -- the act which regulates quality standards for all of the surface water in the United States.

Rothfus referred to the proposed CWA expansion as “federal government overreach” and backed up his words by voting in favor of the Regulatory Overreach Protection Act (House Resolution 5078). The resolution is designed to block any attempt to expand the Act’s definition of “waters of the United States.”

Rep. Rothfus Recites Declaration Of Independence On House Floor

U.S. Representative Keith Rothfus (R-PA- 12) took to the House floor last week to do something that hasn’t been done in more than 40 years.

In celebration of the upcoming holiday, Rothfus recited the entire Declaration of Independence.

Joined by fellow freshmen Representatives Scott Perry (R-PA-04) and Andy Barr (R-KY-06), Rothfus said he was inspired by the 112th Congress.

Congressman Rothfus to Hold Women's Conference in Pittsburgh

Pennsylvania Congressman Keith Rothfus will be in Pittsburgh Saturday hosting a “Women’s Conference on Work, Home, and Life.”

Rothfus said the conference, which will be held at the Community College of Allegheny County, North Campus, is a good way for him to get to know his constituents.

PA Lawmakers Want Accountability for Preventable Deaths at Pittsburgh VA

It has been a little more than a week since the United States Justice Department completed its investigation of a rash of preventable deaths at the Pittsburgh Veteran’s Affairs Healthcare System.

Five veterans died of Legionnaires’ disease at the Pittsburgh VA in 2011 and 2012, while more than 20 other patients were sickened. The Justice Department has concluded that no VA employees are criminally liable for the deaths.

New Mortgage Rule Could Impact Access to Credit

A new regulation slated to go into effect in early 2014 would tighten lending requirements for those seeking a home loan. The Qualified Mortgage Rule is aimed at preventing another housing crisis like the one that hit the U.S. in 2008.

But some in the financial community and on Capitol Hill worry that rule is too broad and will have unintended negative consequences.

Rothfus Introduces Bill to Relax Emissions Standards for Some Coal-Fired Power Plants

Much attention has been given to the Environmental Protection Agency’s recent announcement of tough restrictions on emissions from new coal- and gas-fired power plants, but Republican Congressman Keith Rothfus (PA-12) has his sights set on another, earlier EPA rule.

On Thursday, Rothfus introduced new legislation that would exempt certain types of coal-fired power plants from EPA standards passed last December.

Rep. Rothfus Calls for Fresh Faces in Congress

U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus (R-PA-12) says 12 years is more than enough time in elected office.

The freshman congressman from Sewickley says he's backing a Constitutional amendment that would limit House members to six consecutive two-year terms and senators to two consecutive six-year terms in their seats.

Rothfus said he thinks term limits will give Congress new perspectives.
