Last school year, Sto-Rox High School was on its fourth principal in nine years and teachers struggled to manage a disorderly student body.

The Sto-Rox School District, just west of Pittsburgh, serving 1,300 students from McKees Rocks and Stowe township, had spent years plagued by high turnover in leadership, leaving teachers stretched thin.

90.5 WESA will host a Community Listening Session on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 5:30 at the Father Ryan Arts Center, 420 Chartiers Ave, McKees Rocks, PA 15136.

WESA will facilitate a conversation aimed at understanding what the residents of the Sto-Rox community are concerned about, what they celebrate as a community, and what others should know about life in their community.

All members of the community are welcome; those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Light refreshments will be available.

McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania is just 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. It has a rich history. The first American Eagle Outfitters opened there in 1912. A native American burial mound in the borough is the earliest place of human habitation in the region. But while Pittsburgh is experiencing a renaissance, the blue-collar borough is still struggling to get back on track.

In an ongoing effort to connect multiple bicycle trails and communities with one another, the plan for the Ohio River Trail has been completed.

Community leaders from around Allegheny County gathered at a Rite Aid store in McKees Rocks Thursday to outline the plan.

“This project is going to connect the City of Pittsburgh to McKees Rocks, along Route 51, along the McKees Rocks Bottoms, and finally connecting to the Montour Trail, which now has a spur to the airport,” said Bike Pittsburgh Executive Director Scott Bricker.
